Obituary of Clara Bernice Duncalfe
The family of Clara Bernice Duncalfe wish to announce the peaceful passing of their beloved mom into the arms of her Savior on January 7th 2022, 3 weeks short of her 91st birthday.
On January 31, 1931, Clara was born to Heinrich and Amanda Laible in Winnipegosis MB. She was the youngest of 6 children. She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers, Hilda Wenger, Bill, Paul, Kate Brandt and Carl.
She left home at 15 years old with her older sister Kate to work in the orchards in Kelowna B.C. and also on a dude ranch near 100 Mile House B.C.
When she was 19, Clara got married to her sweetheart, Ernest Duncalfe, in Dauphin MB. on June 27th, 1950. A year later when their first-born daughter arrived, Clara decided she wanted to give her life to Jesus and follow Him. She was baptised shortly after.
Clara and Ernie decided to make a big change after the birth of their 4th child and packed up a few belongings and moved to the Fraser Valley in BC, living in the Aldergrove/Clearbrook area for 10 years. 3 more children were born there before they moved again, this time to Enderby in the Okanagan Valley. Youngest son Darren was born while they lived there. Clara always took her role of wife and mother seriously and could be found often reading her bible or on her knees praying for her family and friends. As well as raising her family, she was very active in the churches she attended, teaching Sunday School, leading kid's clubs, or bible studies. She spent many hours crocheting, reading, and playing several different instruments. She always enjoyed a good sing-along with family and friends.
In 1973 they made another big move to Carstairs AB. where Ernie purchased a business called RE Tire and Motors. Clara did the books for the shop. In 1984 Ernie retired from the shop and took a position of camp manager at Deer Valley Meadows Bible Camp at Alix AB. It was here that Clara lost her life partner, Ernie, to a sudden heart attack leaving her a widow at the age of 56. She then moved back to Carstairs with son Darren, and for several years continued to do the books at the shop as well as working at the Country Kitchen and the Didsbury Motel. Her next move took her to Didsbury to live in her daughter Dawn's basement suite for a few more years before finally moving into Aspen Ridge Lodge, Didsbury.
On the evening of January 7, 2022, Clara's time on earth expired as her Lord Jesus called her to her eternal home.
Clara was predeceased by her husband Ernest, her son, Randy Duncalfe, grandson Shane Clark, Daughter-in-law Karen Duncalfe (wife of Rod), granddaughter-in-law Tanya Sayer (wife of Graham) and son-in law Walter Sayer (husband of Dawn) as well as her parents and siblings, Hilda, Bill, Paul and Carl.
Clara is survived by her sister Kate Brandt, her children and spouses, Val (Max) Clark, Susan Duncalfe (wife of Randy), Dawn Sayer, Rod, Sharon (Joe) Rafih, Lance (Linda), Kevin (June) and Darren (Cynthia) as well as 23 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
Clara will be sadly missed by all who knew her as family or friend but find great peace in knowing she is with her Lord.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the wonderful care given to their mom by the staff at Aspen Ridge Lodge, Didsbury, during her nearly 8 years there.
A Graveside Service was held for Clara at the Carstairs Cemetery on Friday January 14th, 2022. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
