Obituary of Ken Severson

Please share a memory of Ken to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kenneth Lloyd Severson passed away Friday, Nov 19th, 2021, at the age of 72.

Ken was born in Eston Saskatchewan and raised between the family farm in nearby Tyner and Saskatoon. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Zoology at the University of Saskatchewan

Ken worked most of his life in the agricultural feed and poultry industries. His work path included Atomic Energy, Masterfeeds, Feed-Rite, Hyline International, Alta Genetics, Sparks Eggs and Burnbrae. The international era included travel to 68 different countries over 20 years where he was able to develop new and service existing markets. Extensive time was spent in Poland, Ukraine, most of the rest of the former Eastern Bloc, China, and South America to name a few. He made many lifelong friends in every country. True to his nature, he developed into a polyglot and could converse in Polish, Spanish, Ukrainian, French and some Chinese dialects.  He valued his many friendships both internationally and recently closer to home as he continued working in the chicken world of Canada.

As Ken wished, he was able to continue working in the industry right up until a few days before his passing.  He would often say “I will retire when my truck does.”  It is still going with 680,000 kilometers on that odometer.

Ken’s sense of self efficacy and capacity for learning were unparalleled. Hours were spent in his favorite chair with his iPad on the world wide web researching everything! At different epochs in his life, he was active as a horseman, show announcer, bee keeper, marksman, hunter, guide, carpenter, pilot, wood turner, breadmaker, bird watcher, wine maker, tree expert, scholar, pottery tool maker, squirrelologist  and more.

Although an accomplished and modern day renaissance man, in private - and only to those he was closest to - he would brag that his greatest accomplishments were his family- in particular his children and grandchildren. Ken had no greater joy than a quiet afternoon on the farm with the family and a good meal-preferably something off the smoker paired with a good bottle of wine.

Ken is survived by:

- Wife Shannon

- Daughter Sharlen (Kevin) and their children-Brent (Amanda) great grands Riley and Cheyenne, Jessica, Katelyn (Jacob) and Nick.

- Daughter Krista (Cory) and her children Scott (Taylor) and Samantha.

- Son Carl (Meri)

- Son Ryan

And: his sister Linda (Joe), stepfather Gordon Smith and Aunti Dot, as well as many cousins and relatives.
