Obituary of Darlene Patricia Stonehocker

Darlene “Pat” Patricia Hehn Nielson Stonehocker

On the evening of November 1, 2015, while being surrounded by loved ones, Pat passed away peacefully at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, AB after a valiant fight against acute myloid leukemia.

Pat was born on December 31, 1943 in Calgary, Alberta and was the youngest of seven children born to Martin Lucas Reinhold Hehn and Gladys Frances Foreman.

After raising most of her children, Pat went back to school to get a degree in social work and worked at the Chinook’s Edge School Division. Pat loved her family and wanted nothing more than to spend time with them. Four years ago Pat married Ardy Stonehocker and the two of them travelled extensively enjoying friends and visiting children and grandchildren.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pat had the opportunity to work in a variety of callings which allowed her sphere of influence to be felt by many. She had a strong knowledge of the gospel but more importantly a strong faith in her Saviour Jesus Christ, which is why she volunteered her time and talents in so many ways.

Pat was predeceased by both of her parents as well as four of her siblings: Doreen Loretta Hehn Dewes, Murdo Allen Hehn, Jack Cooper Hehn and Kenneth Roy Hehn.

Pat is survived by her loving husband Ardy Stonehocker, as well as siblings Janetta Lyvone Hehn Brown and Donald Russell Hehn. She is also survived by all of her children: Denise Tyresa Nielson Atkins, Shelly Kavell Nielson Toly, Kris Richard Nielson, Natalie Melinda Nielson, Jon Merrill Nielson, Nicole Annette Nielson, Kai James Nielson, Kelsy Lee Janee Nielson Mulroney, as well as 22 grandchildren.

Pat’s loving and caring personality, her empathy, her grit and determination along with her quirky charm will be greatly missed by all those who have had the fortune to have known her, but especially by those who were given the gift to call her Grandma Pat (GP) or Mom.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 6, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Innisfail, Alberta with interment in Innisfail Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at condolences@sunsetltd.ca. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Blood Service.
