Bertha Wiebe

Obituary of Bertha Wiebe

Our dear Bertha Wiebe, a beloved Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, and Friend, was born October 1, 1939, to Isaac and Mary Friesen Wiebe at their home at Swalwell, AB. She passed into Heaven at the Three Hills Hospital at the age of 81 years after a short bout of illness.

When Bertha was 11 years old, she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. She loved the Lord dearly and showed this by her caring and kindness, to her family, friends, patients, and everyone she met.

Her basic education was achieved at Antler and Linden schools. In her teenage years, Bertha cheerfully contributed a good part of building up the family farm, milking the cows and helping to build the house and barn.

In 1960, Bertha began her nursing career in Three Hills, training with her sister, Betty and friend Joyce Reimer (Klassen). Among the different places she served was Hogan Hozhoni Childcare Home, Window Rock, Arizona. She also volunteered for the local ambulance service where she was able to give comfort and care to those in need. A few of her years were spent in Roblin, MB near her sister Selma and Abe and employed at their local hospital. In Three Hills she worked at the hospital about fifteen years and later for the local Home Care, where she cared for the elderly till she was 70 years old.

Aunt Bertha loved to travel!  Among the places she visited were Africa, Europe, Central America, Mexico, most of the Canadian Provinces, and American States. Entertaining was also one of her favorite things to do. Many different people were recipients of her generous hospitality and delicious meals. Having her cousins and friends stay for a few days was among her very happy times.

Her last years were spent at Westview Suites, at Linden. Thank you so much to the kind staff there for the support you gave her!

Left to cherish her memory are her siblings Ann, Charlotte and Joe Toews, Claude and Mildred Wiebe and Betty Jantz all of Linden, AB, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Those waiting for her on the other side are her brother Arnold, sister Selma and brother-in-law Abe Wohlgemuth, sister Leona, brother-in-law Eldon Jantz, nephew Darrel Wohlgemuth, and an infant niece.
