Obituary of Ruth Evelyn Johnson

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our precious mom and grandmother, Ruth Evelyn Nichols Johnson went to be with Jesus early in the morning on July 18, 2020. Ruth was born in Isabella, Oklahoma on July 3, 1925 to George and Susie Nichols. She was the eldest of nine siblings, who remember her beautiful alto voice as a young girl in their home. On March 17, 1946, Ruth was joined in marriage to Leonard Johnson in Fairview, Oklahoma by her dad, Minister George Nichols. She stood by his side for 63 years and supported him through life's mountains and valleys. Like the Ruth of old she lived the verse "Whither thou goest, I will go". God blessed our family with eight children who each thought they were loved the most. Life's adventures brought us from Fairview, Oklahoma to Colorado to Southern Alberta and then on to Silver Valley, Alberta. After dad's passing, mom spent her last years in Linden, AB near her oldest daughter Diane, who cared for her with such love. Our mom was a consecrated Christian from a young age. She gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minister Frank Haynes on April 12, 1939. She remained faithful throughout her life. All who interacted with her felt an unwavering faith in God. Her intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit was apparent in everyday life. Mom, safely raising an accident-prone family of eight on the frontier, established herself as a true prayer warrior. Homesteading in the north gave the opportunity to be creative and she learned to cook a delicious meal for her family with a moose roast. Despite the hardships of a pioneer woman's life, we rarely heard a complaint voiced. She remained kind and longsuffering. She was a good listener for someone who was going through a difficult time. As her children, we remember her singing Every Morning Mercies New and various cherished hymns. Whether life brought her good times or rocky times, she was an enduring example of graciousness to us as her family. Mom's message to us has always been "We have to make it to heaven - there is no alternative". We are privileged to be her children and will miss her until we meet again. Fay Johnson, Diane Reimer, Janet Klassen, Denver Klassen, Arlen and Joanne Johnson, Merle and Debra Johnson, Stanton and Becky Johnson, Roger and Rhena Toews, Nolen and Sheri Johnson, 27 grandchildren, and 67 great-grandchildren. Welcoming her home are her husband Leonard Johnson, son Delton Johnson, son-in-law Ellis Reimer, Grandson Trenton Toews, her parents and two brothers.
