Obituary of Corney Penner

Please share a memory of Corney to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cornelius Bartel Penner was born to Cornelius M. and Annie Bartel Penner on October 7, 1938 at St. Anne, MB. On June 11, 2020, the angels were hovering near, waiting to carry him home. The nurse told Dad to wait till mom reached his side. He nodded his head while struggling for breath. Dad was aware of mom's presence and peacefully passed away reaching the age of 81 years. Dad grew up on a dairy farm at St. Anne, MB together with his 12 siblings. He received his education at the Greenland School. At the age of 21, Dad gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. In 1964 Dad moved to Linden Alberta, where his sister Marianne and brother-in-law Leroy resided. Dad worked as an orderly at the Linden Nursing Home. Later he went back to Manitoba and met our mother while working on a remodel job at the Greenland Home, where she was a nurse-aide. On September 25, 1966, he married Linda Thiessen at Kleefeld, MB. They made their home in Linden, and shortly thereafter purchased an acreage with a church building on it. Together, they remodeled the church building for their home. They were blessed with 2 sons and 4 daughters, Dad enjoyed doing carpentry, and was very skilled at it. He also took some schooling and received his welders license. Dad enjoyed playing softball and we children have special memories of having numerous family games. We also have special memories of a trip to Niagara Falls, visiting our relatives along the way. Dad also enjoyed going fishing with his friends. Dad went through lots of sad and difficult times in his life and was discouraged for many years. In later years, his heart softened and he re-consecrated his life to the Lord. The change in Dad was miraculous! He was a happy man. In Dad and Mom’s sunset years their home was a bit of heaven on earth. We children loved to see the happiness and love our parents had for each other. He loved going to church and his Bible and prayer life were very meaningful to him. He was a real inspiration to the congregation. Due to declining health in 2018, folks moved to Westview Care Suites. They enjoyed good times socializing with their friends and glad for all who stopped in. This last January, Dad had a fall which sent him to the hospital. He ended up being in the hospital for approximately 3 months. In the beginning of April, the way opened for him to move to full care at WCC. When Dad arrived at WCC he told Mom that he was home now and was so glad to be with her. He often expressed his love for her.
