Johan Neufeld

Obituary of Johan Neufeld

Please share a memory of Johan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a brief battle with cancer, Johan Dyck Neufeld passed on from this world into eternity. Johan was born on June 1, 1971 to Jacob and Katharina Neufeld. He was the seventh of nine children of which three have died; the oldest, and the youngest two. Four brothers and two sisters are still alive. When Johan was eleven years old, his family moved to Leamington, Ontario. Three years and eight months later, when Johan was fifteen, they decided to go back to Mexico for a vacation. While in the U.S.A. they had an accident, which sent his parents to the hospital for a checkup and his dad had to recover from a broken leg. His mom also had to recover for a couple days. In total they stayed there for eleven days. Then while in Mexico, Johan’s dad died from what is thought to be a heart attack. Johan’s mom later remarried and then also died on August 8, 2009. When Johan was twenty-one years of age, he was baptised on the confession of his faith. At twenty-six, he was married to Elizabeth Martens. For the next twenty-two years, he devoted his life to serving his family. Johan enjoyed working and playing with the family. On December 8, 2018, after going in for testing, the call came that Johan had been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. After trying to fight it with natural remedies for about a year, it became too bad and he was brought to the University of Alberta hospital on December 1, 2019. Appointments were made at the Cross Cancer Institute to see if they would be able to help him. He started radiation treatments and after they were completed, he was transported to the Two Hills Health Centre for recovery. On May 25, 2020 at about 4:30 P.M., his family was called that they should come to the hospital because he was bleeding. Then at about 8:00 P.M. on the same day, Johan’s heavenly Father took him home where he is forever free of suffering. Johan will be greatly missed by family and friends and has left behind a legacy of patience and contentment that will not be forgotten. Johan leaves behind his spouse Elizabeth, and seven children: Corny (21), Frank (19), Ricky (17), Jonathan (16), Nally (14), Hezekiah (11), and Samuel (9). We are happy for Johan, knowing he is at a better place, but will miss him greatly.
