Obituary of Bob Gosse

Please share a memory of Bob to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robin Gosse, aka Bob, resident of Calgary, AB, formerly of Whitbourne, Nfld passed away on March 31, 2020 at the age of 79 years after a tremendous battle with dementia. Robin was born to Arthur & Mahala Gosse in Whitbourne, Newfoundland in the fall of 1940. After an abortive attempt to join the RCMP at 15, Robin somehow managed to enlist at the age of 16, and served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 37 years. Having served in most of the active peacekeeping theatres, he advanced rapidly through the enlisted ranks. Subsequent to reaching the highly respected rank Chief Warrant Officer, Robin was selected as a candidate for commission from the ranks thereby reaching his final rank of Captain. Despite an offer of promotion to Major, he opted for retirement from the military. He then began a new career in the oilfield working overseas (primarily in the Sudan) where, upon his return home, he would regale his family and friends with stories of his time there. He doted on his grandchildren, sharing his love of sports cards and memorabilia with Andy and was firmly wrapped around Cassia’s pinky finger. He will be sadly missed by his son, Roland (Leanne), grandchildren Andrew and Cassia, their grandmother, Eileen and brother and sisters, Carl (Gladys), Sylvia (Fred), Phyllis (John), Rita, in-laws; Bella, Whilemena, Gerald, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by siblings: Harry (Dulcie), Edward, Pearl (Aubrey), Jean (Ned), Gwen (Herb), Frank, Mabel, and Michael Greiner. Special thanks go out to Dr. Ryan and Dr. Hutton and the Level 3 staff at Bethany Riverview who have been so very kind and compassionate during his long illness. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions a funeral will not be held at this time. Cremation is entrusted to Sunset Funeral Service and a memorial will be held later in the year when we can safely travel to Newfoundland and take him home. Memorial donations may be made to the dementia related charity of your choice.
