Obituary of Lorne Allen Thiessen

Please share a memory of Lorne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lorne Allen Thiessen was born to Gerhard and Minnie on June 24th, 1934 in the log house at Crooked Creek AB. He peacefully passed from this life in the wee hours of the morning on the 30th of January, 2020, at the Ridgevalley Home. Dad was the eldest of the Thiessen children and grew up on his parent’s homestead. His work included walking behind the horses and harrow, hauling grain bundles to the threshing machine with horse and wagon, and other farm duties. Dad gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized on November 23, 1947, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. One of his first jobs away from the farm, was choring the horses used for skidding in the lumber camp. He later had other responsibilities including sawyer. He was united in marriage to Josie Toews on the 1st of July, 1956. To this union were born three daughters and three sons. The time spent in the mission at Little Red, AB. was one of the highlights of their early years together. Many pleasant memories of this time were shared with us through the years. Dad’s aim was to be a farmer but some off-farm work was required to help pay the bills. Dad found employment in operating a Cat to build roads in the community as well as clearing land with a brush cutter. Dad taught us to work hard and enjoy it. In 1964, Dad was called to serve the congregation as a Deacon and two years later, in 1966, he was ordained to the Gospel Ministry. He served faithfully in that capacity for many years. He enjoyed his years on the mission board and being responsible in Belize. Dad reconsecrated his life in 2007. We are very thankful for this experience. He suffered a stroke 6 months later which restricted his ability to communicate with us. His limitations caused him many frustrations; we appreciate his ability to laugh together with us about it! 3 years later Dad and Mom moved into a self-care apartment. In 2013 Dad moved into full care in Ridgevalley Home. We greatly appreciate the loving care the caregivers gave and for going beyond their duty in caring for Dad. Those left to cherish memories: our Mom, Josie; Lucille and Ben Ginther, Swanson, SK; Janet and Lee Wohlgemuth, Crooked Creek, AB; Dale and Charlotte, Grande Prairie, AB; Ivan and Bonnie, Quesnel, BC; Gwen and Marv Isaac, Spiritwood, SK; and Ray and Becky, Crooked Creek, AB; Nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Dad is survived by his immediate family, Percy and Eunice, Pam and Jake Barkman, sister-in-law Lena Thiessen, brother-in-law, Willard Toews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Melvin, and his sister Eva. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
