Obituary of Daniel James Maxwell

October 7, 1947 – December 30, 2015 - Daniel James Maxwell of Elnora, AB passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Three Hills Hospital on December 30th. Dan was the first born child of Margaret & Gordon Maxwell, and an older brother to Linda and Larry. He grew up on the family farm at Huxley, but his journey through life took him to the Navy in Victoria, Three Hills, Forestburg, Acme, Bow Island, back to Huxley, Torrington and lastly Elnora. During this time he was a grain buyer, farmer and oilfield safety officer. Dan was an avid sportsman and fan. He enjoyed curling, fishing, hockey, hardball, and above all else, fastball. Dan spent many evenings and weekends on the ball diamond, often with his girls and holiday trailer in tow. He was a tremendous athlete. Camping was another one of Dan's loves, Trenville campground being his favorite spot. He also had a love of books, and spent many hours reading. Although he struggled to show his love for his daughters and grandchildren, they know he felt it. Dan was extremely proud of his daughters, Shanon & Deanne, and his grandchildren, Megan, Hayden, Jackson, Seth & Chase. He was their biggest fans. Dan's father Gordon Maxwell passed away in 2007. He is survived by his daughter Shanon Sailer of Three Hills and her children Megan, Hayden, Jackson & Seth, his daughter Deanne (Jason) Hunter of Calgary and her son Chase, his Mother Margaret Maxwell of Olds, sister Linda (Joe) Hoedl of Olds, brother Larry (Barb), and their children and grandchildren. Memorial Donations may be made to the Huxley Community Association. It was Dan's wish that he be cremated and that his ashes be spread on one of the ball diamonds he loved so much. A private family service to fulfill this wish will be held at a later date.
