Fred Reimer

Obituary of Fred Herbert Reimer

Fred Reimer was born to Aaron F. and Katherine Bartel Reimer at Steinbach, MB on July 9, 1933. On November 10, 2019, after spending a pleasant Sunday at church and with family, God called him home.

When he was three years old the family moved to Crooked Creek, AB. He entertained us with stories of growing up on the homestead with his brothers and sisters.  They were poor but didn’t know it. When he was eleven years old he moved to a dairy farm at Linden, AB.

Soon after their move, during revival meetings, he answered God’s call. He gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He lived a life of faith and thankfulness for God’s grace.

On August 19, 1955 he married Doreen Barkman at Kleefeld, MB. This was the beginning of many happy years together. They settled on a mixed farm by a little creek near Linden, AB. In 1961 they moved to Edberg, AB with their two little girls. Two more daughters and two sons made their family complete. We made many good memories working and playing together on the farm. Dad was an adventurous person and after twenty years at Edberg our whole family moved to Carrot River, SK, becoming part of the new congregation there. He continued raising cattle together with his sons.

Dad was a patient teacher and didn’t get upset when we made mistakes, but in matters of right and wrong we always knew where he stood.  He was devoted to his family and each new member was welcomed. He became a beloved Grandpa to his grandchildren. He deeply felt the loss of his youngest son, David, in 2017.

Dad made friends with people from all walks of life, often saying “Strangers are just friends you haven’t met.” His optimism and sense of humor brightened our days. He took time to get involved in others lives with encouragement and a listening ear. We are thankful for his example of unselfish living and service to God and man.

Three years ago Dad and Mom moved into a retirement lodge, making more new friends.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Doreen, his children, Bonnie and Tony Isaac, Sinclair, MB; Candace and Ken Thiessen, Cromer, MB; Vickie and Gerald Thiessen, Edberg, AB; Danny and Lenore Reimer, Mistatim, SK; Lorna and Glenn Johnson, Lakin, KS; daughter-in-law Lenore Reimer, Vanderhoof, BC; 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 4 step granddaughters.
