Obituary of Ethel Hunter

It is with much sadness, that we announce the passing of our mother, Ethel Doreen Hunter.  She passed away March 8, 2019 on her 83rd birthday, after having suffered a stroke in August of 2018.

Mom was born in Luseland, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1936, to Reinhold and Nellie Kostrosky.  She joined a family of brothers - Alfred and Don, and sister Marion.  The Kostrosky family worked a grain farm in Saskatchewan before moving to Alberta when she was still a teenager.  The family eventually settled in the Acme area in 1950 where Mom remained until her passing over 69 years later.  During this time Mom attended Acme School and in 1954 married Ken Hunter of Acme.

She was a mother to 4 children:  Mark (Grace), Joy, Murray, and Carry (Shane).  A beloved grandmother to 8 grandchildren:  Dan (Karen), Robert, Kevin (Kathryn), Jill, Cassandra (Greg), Chad (Julia), Chantel and Jenna.  And a beloved great grandmother to 7 great grandchildren: Megan, Brooklyn, Kamryn, Kooper, Lauren, Andrew and Major.

Mom was an active member of the Acme community with Rebecca's, the Red Hatters, the Acme Seniors and various committee volunteer work.  She worked for a time as a teller at the Bank.  She was an administrative assistant to the Town Manager, Mr. Calvin Perman for several years.  When she left that role, the town had to hire two people to take her place.  Mom proudly administered the Meadow Park Manor before her retirement.  She was an avid curler, golfer, and was a fixture in the stands of most sporting events in and around her community.

In her retirement she enjoyed playing cards at the senior centre, playing bridge with her good friends, and painstakingly tending her yard and garden.  Her proudest accomplishment was by far her children and their families.  Her greatest joy was watching her family grow and their participation in sports of almost any kind.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, cross word puzzles, TV shows and sports - baseball, curling, and tennis.

Ethel is predeceased by her parents, Reinhold and Nellie Kostrosky, husband Ken Hunter, brothers Alfred and Don Kostrosky, sister Marion Hannah, grandson Bradley Teghtmeyer, and an infant daughter.

In keeping with mom's wishes we are planning a family memorial service at the graveside on May 25th, 2019, followed with a lunch and celebration with her close friends of the community.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who cared for her during convalescence and until her passing.
