Obituary of Lois Evelyn Hiller

Lois Evelyn Hiller (nee Colter) age 81, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loving family and friends on April 13, 2018. Lois was born on September 16, 1936 in Drumheller to her parents, Clayton and Marjorie Colter. She trained in the Drumheller Hospital and worked for a decade and a half as a Medical Records Technician in Drumheller and numerous Calgary area hospitals. In 1964, she married Glen Hiller, and they moved to Calgary (1966), where they started their family and lived until 1982 when they moved onto the Hiller family farm at Ghost Pine Creek (Three Hills). Lois gladly and willingly retired from her career (1970) to be a full-time stay-at-home mother and homemaker, which she considered her primary and most important natural calling.

Lois's main love and purpose, however, resided in her relationship with her Heavenly Father. Lois began to walk with God at the age of 21, and until her death, loved and served Him with all her heart. Lois didn't want any glorifying of her 'accomplishments' in life, but all that was admired in her was the result of God's work there. At the end of her life, she would tell anyone that God had been faithful to her always, and she truly came to believe that nothing matters in this life except salvation.

Lois was known for her patience and gentleness, and her ability to make others feel loved and cared for. She was always up for a cup of tea and a good visit, revealing her genuine interest in each and every person in her life and those she crossed paths with.

Lois is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Roxane Hiller (Three Hills); her daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Richard Lauder (Airdrie); her beloved grandchildren Chantelle Hiller and Chris Petterson (along with great grandson Kayden), Clay Hiller,  Jenae Lauder, and Jaden Lauder; her brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Lois Colter (High River); and her niece, Melanie MacLean (Minburn). She is pre-deceased by her parents, Clayton and Marjorie, her husband Glen, her sister June MacLean, and her niece, Cindy MacLean.

Special thanks to the Rockyview General, Airdrie Homecare, and Rural Palliative Care nurses and staff for their care and highly professional services; and to her loving and dedicated caregivers, Denise King, Lisanne Shanks, Jennifer Sayers, Jacquie Saworski, Tamara Farrell, Brenda Beatty and Catherine Soroten. She loved each of them, and appreciated their gentle help and tender care.

If friends wish, contributions can be made in memory of Lois to Stars Air Ambulance or the Calgary Children’s Foundation.
