“…her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
Doreen Carlson (Ritz) went to be with her Lord and Saviour on August 1, 2022, peacefully and without pain. She was born in Empress, Alberta on December 2, 1936 making her 85 years young and had lived a full, productive, meaningful life of service to others, filled with much grace and Godly wisdom. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 65 years, REVEREND EDWARD ALLAN CARLSON as well as her 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren as follows: LINDA Mae Turnbull and her children and grandchildren: Aaron (Mike) parents to Lynden & Myley, Danika (Levi) parents to Preston, Mckinley & Adelyn, Meghan (Matt), and Katie, parent to Ryder; BRENDA Dawn Klemke (Stan) and their children and grand children: Nicole, Brandon, (Jena) parents to Kayden, Trevor (Chelsea) parent/step-parent to Isabella; SHANNON Gay Stewart and her children: Austin (Nikki), Sawyer, Jensen and Hunter; WESLEY Allan Carlson (Lisa) and their children: Amy & Ewan, and CORDELL Edward Carlson and his children: Karissa, Tristian, Spencer and Hudson.
Doreen is survived by her sister, Ruth Leischner (Ray) and 4 brothers, Harvey Ritz (Carol), Wayne Ritz (Jay), Keith Ritz (Marilyn) and Dennis Ritz (Roslyn), together with her step-mother-in-law, Marjorie Carlson and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand- nieces and grand-nephews. She is predeceased by her mother, Katherine Ritz (1953), her father, Albert Ritz (2001), her step-mother, Margaret Ritz (1988) and her grandbaby, Parker Edward Stewart (1995) as well as her parents-in-law, Gustave Carlson (1999) and Verna Carlson (1968).
Doreen joyfully and faithfully ministered with her husband, Reverend Ed Carlson, as they served in pastoral ministry in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba from 1961-1987. From 1987-1996, while Ed served as National Director of Evangelism Explosion Canada (EE), Doreen managed the office and often accompanied Ed on cross-Canada trips, setting up churches in discipleship training. When, in 1996, EE became not only the first ministry, but the first ever entity to be active in every country in the world, Doreen was honoured and grateful to support Ed as he carried the Canadian flag in a Parade of Nations in celebration.
The loves of her life were her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren and she prayed for them, and so many others, faithfully by name each and every day. Above all things, and in all of life’s circumstances, her constant prayer for each of the family members was that ‘the family circle would be unbroken, and no one would be left behind.’ Activities that brought her joy were her ministry and service, playing the piano, music, sewing, camping, Scrabble, family history, photos, writing, and gardening/growing as she remained a farm girl at heart.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church (123 4th Avenue E, Three Hills, Alberta) at 1:30 pm. Interment at Three Hills Cemetery will directly follow the service for those who may wish to attend. Refreshments will be served following the funeral at Bethel.
Doreen will be missed beyond measure, but we rest in the knowledge that because of her faith in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for all who place their trust in Him, she was a child of God, her entire life was well-lived in service to God and others, and she is now in heaven hearing the words “well done, thou good and faithful servant…”
Memorial Donations may be made to Basically Babies or Samaritan's Purse.
