Karen was born July 20, 1942 in Sydney Nova Scotia to Duncan and Mildred Gray. She grew up in a small fishing village, Gabarus, Cape Breton. After moving to Calgary in her early 20’s she attended an Elks dance in Three Hills with her then roommate Lorraine Huxley and met the love of her life. Tom and Karen were married July 25, 1970 and resided most of their married life on the farm south east of Three Hills.
Karen loved to garden and care for her yard both on the farm and later in town. She farmed with her husband, enjoyed camping and fishing in the summer and knitting and crosswords in the winter. She loved to go for a country drive, just her and Tom exploring the local areas. She travelled to Gabarus every couple of years to visit with family and friends. She had many lifelong friends in the Ghost Pine, Carbon and Three Hills communities with whom she enjoyed a coffee and a visit.
Karen’s Greatest love and devotion was her family, several calls every day to Wendy kept her up to date. She loved to journal all her family’s busy lives, recording the activities of the day, scores of the games and keeping all these memories in her many photo albums. Karen attended many children and grandchildren sporting events and activities and loved to celebrate all holidays and milestones together with her family.
Karen is predeceased by her parents Duncan and Mildred Gray, In laws Tom and Alice Ferguson, Uncle Kenneth Grant, Sister in law Muriel Dewald and nephew Fred Dickie.
A private celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date.
