Frank Harold Klassen was born to Isaac and Helena (Baerg) Klassen on October 1, 1917 at Swalwell, Alberta. He quietly and peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of October 30, 2017, at the Westview Care Community, reaching the age of 100 years and 29 days.
Dad lost his mother at the age of 6. At 9 years old he went to live with his Uncle Aaron Meglis. They had a very special place in his life and heart. He treasured the family.
He gave his heart to Jesus in his youth and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. He lived his faith and was faithful to the end.
At 19 years old he went to homestead in the Crooked Creek area. While living there he got his call to serve his country and he spent his CO service in Jasper.
He was united in marriage to Clara Loewen on September 3, 1944. Dad and Mom enjoyed 56 years together. Five children were blessed to have him as their father.
Dad enjoyed people and made many friends. Their home was truly “A House By the Side of the Road”. It was always open to friends and family and their lives were enriched by the friendships they made.
Their lives were lives of service. Dad was an avid storyteller and had a never ending well of experiences and memories to share. Weather fascinated him and we seldom talked to him without him mentioning the temperature of the day. He loved animals and had a special way with them. He loved to recite and even his last evening he was reciting passages from the Bible and poetry he learned many years ago.
After mom died he was very lonely. He married Margaret Isaac in his later years and they spent 10 years together. Dad loved and appreciated her family.
Dad left a rich legacy and a clear testimony of his faith and we want to meet him again.
Cherishing his memories are 5 children: Dennis and Hannah Toews, Creston, BC; Orville and Rosalee, Linden, AB; Burton and Susan Toews, Linden, AB; Lloyd and Joan, Beaverlodge, AB; Delton and Reta Boese, Linden, AB; 23 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. His brother Abe, and brother-in-law Wilbert Esau. Margaret’s children: Violet, Robert, Ruby and their families. Also, the Megli family and the Froese family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Clara, daughter Verna, wife Margaret, 5 brothers and 1 sister, 8 sisters-in law and 2 brothers-in-law.
